Succulents are easy care plants and are known for it. There are still things that succulent owners need to know about their plants.
Soil – What’s in the dirt? Succulents like to be in well drained soil so using normal mixed dirt isn’t the best plan. It is best to mix your soil with sand, pumice, or perlite for better drainage and stronger roots.
Cute Pot- It may be a cute container but it may not be suitable for your succulent. If you are just beginning, starting with a terra cotta pot with a drainage hole would work. More advanced succulent owners can watch closer when using a more unusual container being careful not to over water and drown their window sill buddy.
Sunlight- Succulents are very special because they can be put into many different climates. It is best to be giving your succulent 6 hours of sunlight. If your succulent is new, check on it and make sure it isn’t being scorched. Putting a barrier between the window and your young succulent can prevent it from being burnt.
Succulents also need sunlight everywhere so making sure you rotate your plant will help keep your succulent from leaning and becoming unhealthy and deformed.
Water ~ Water ~ Water To get it out of the way: Air Plants DO need water but not a lot! Soak your air plant in water once a week for one hour ONLY!
Dirt planted succulents don’t like to be wet so making sure that the soil is dry in-between watering is key. It is also important to note that during different parts of the year, succulents will change how much water they use. You will have to check to make sure the dirt is getting the moisture and not the foliage. A sign of overwatering you will gain Ghats. That is sure sign of way too much water
Fertilizer? - Yes! Plants cannot just survive on water and sunlight to be strong. Use a little fertilizer every third watering to you are not over and under feeding your plant.
I have to clean my Succulent? Yes! Like anything else in your house, you need to dust your succulent. Taking a wet paint brush and dusting off the foliage is a great way to clean your succulent.
